The Natural Resources and Water Law Group assists clients by monitoring and interpreting the laws in this dynamic area through extensive agency contacts. The Group also provides legal analysis, consultation and negotiation with regulatory agencies and legislative bodies, and frequently prepares and presents testimony to such entities. Should the need arise, the Group has the expertise to protect client rights in state and federal court proceedings, and before state and federal administrative bodies.

The Natural Resource and Water Law Group’s expertise includes air quality (California Clean Air Act, Toxic Hot Spots Assessment Act, and agricultural burn plans); Endangered Species Act (incidental/accidental takings, listings, critical habitat designation); land use (Williamson Act, C.E.Q.A. and condemnation); water quality (Clean Water Act, Porter-Cologne, and state and regional water quality control plans); Proposition 65 (listing and compliance); and agricultural and conservation easements.

As the state’s population grows, so too does the public interest in quality of life issues that underlie many environmental laws. The law in this area is changing faster than ever as state and federal officials attempt to balance the need for growth with the desire to protect our natural heritage. With its breadth of expertise and multi-discipline approach, KSC’s Natural Resources and Land Use Group is uniquely qualified to work with clients in any of the numerous arenas in which these important issues can arise.
